Anyone have a *--~real~--* fender roller?

Any one got one of these?

http://www.eastwood.com/ew-fender-ro...struction.html

I am looking to roll & pull the fenders on my uber rare authentic 91 Turbo FC while it is down for paint this winter. I would love to drop the $$ on one for myself but I only have so much leeway on spending $$ on the FC with the wife so I would prefer a borrowing/renting of a fellow rotorheads over dropping cash on one of my own.

I can compensate any willing parties with cash, beer, food.... ???

Hit me up!

Steve

You might check with Josh18 2k. I rented one from him a while back. Sounds like he is still willing to rent it out from a previous thread. He is a real nice guy.
I'm sure he will chime in here when he sees this thread...

I'll try to make the trip mid December if you don't mind?

Haha, was waiting for someone to say something like that, BUT this is not a "geter' done!" kinda build. This is the car I will ALWAYS have. 10 years from now I will still have it and be working on something. It took me over a year of searching every day to find this car (real s5 Turbo in good shape).

I would buy the real roller myself before baseballing batting it and such. I should just bit the bullet and buy it and be the one in Seattle who rents it out.

Thanks for the offer, but for me an important part of building the car is doing everything myself. I mean, I have never painted a car in my life but here I am half way through the process. I also see a transmission rebuild in my future and I can't begin to imagine paying to have that done.

To each his own I guess. 10 years ago I probably would have just used a bat, but that isn't my MO anymore.

I'm thinking of ways to justify this to the wife. $250 for a fender roller. After renging it out 5 times it will nearly pay for itself.

Get a stance one or PBM. Eastwoods sucks cause they're long and you have to raise the car up to get it to sit against the lip of the fender. Nobody rolls fenders on a stock height car so the length seems a little stupid to me.

eh, mine seemed to turn out fine... i had tein flex's attached when i did em. my car was never superdumped tho... if an eastwood roller wont fit, you need to wind the lower part of the coils down a bit. the arc of the roller will be all retarted with a short roller anyway. FC wheel wells are wide

My car is "super dumped" i guess, but i literally couldn't even bolt an eastwood to it because it wouldn't fit. The lower end of the roller was above the bottom of the fender, and the top was hitting the "roof" of the wheel well. I don't see the "arc" being an issue as you're generally not trying to roll the entire fender edge, but a (semi) small area. Could be wrong though Either way, it's time and (possibly) an alignment away, just thought it was kinda lame.

to get the best pull out of a fender, you want to match the arc of the roller with the arc of the fender, so the roller doesnt 'fall off' too far up on the sides. if you use a super short arm, you'll pull a bubble out with a much smaller radius than the fender well and it'll just kinda look funny. when i did mine, the roller would fall out of the wheel well in the front right by the molding, but you cant really roll past that anyway so it was fine.

IMO its worth the little extra effort to wind down the coils to set the hub for an arc that follows the wheelwell as best as possible. if you're not gonna do it right, then why bother renting/buying the right tool? a bat works just fine lol

BTW, i did the pass side first, and i messed it up (pull was progressive enough). you can see a pinch on the back edge. driver's side turned out way better. the backside of the fender is def the hardest part of the job.
