aaw Crap...Failed Emissions!
Tried to roll my newly purchased T-II through emissions this week. I thought it would be pretty easy, since my N/A had no problems passing with disintegrated pre-cats...
I got the car warmed up for 20 minutes or so on I-5, then rolled in only to be told that my idle was too high for the test to start. My RPM gauge was indicating around 800 RPM's, but the screen showed a consistent 1250-1350 RPM's. Can the RPM's really be off by 500 from indicated?
I was thinking Bulls**t, they must have the wrong setting...so they tell me to turn on the heat, the stereo, crank the wheel...all to no avail.
Finally, the lead dufus comes over hits a button and starts the test anyway.
The failing results were:
HC: Cruise Emissions= 450 (Limit= 160)
CO: Idle Emissions= 1.57 (Limit= 1.2)
The car has an RB exhaust, new plugs, filter and all fluids changed. The owner didn't have the car "Smog" ready for CA, but I didn't think this would be a problem up here.
I would be ready to pay the $150 to get a waiver, but I'm also looking to get connected with a top mechanic who can keep my new baby in top condition.
So does anybody know a place to go which knows rotaries and is emissions certified? I've tried calling Mark with Mt. Peak Automotive (has giving me great service in the past), but his number seems out of service...
Maybe I can make it to the meet down in Olympia next Monday, and get some more education on my ride...I must confess that I'm in the infancy stage in knowledge on modded turbos ;-)

Yah it did, but if we adopt the cali emissions laws/regulations that means we'll have a visual too
All that'll do is just make me get even more creative
EDIT
Ahhh you edited ur post lol. Yah that thread I wrote worked awesome for our current emissions laws with no visual. It was simple but took some setting up and thinking by me, worked out well.
Now I just gotta hope the cali laws dont get enacted, damn visual >:|

I wonder if it would be possible to do a "complete body and engine swap" from a second gen to a first gen. Basically just rip off the vin plates and swap em. Then you could call your 2nd gen a 1st gen and get by on the 25+ yr rule.
I bet the people at the DOL would laugh at me, but I feel like trying it someday.

what about all the logging trucks down in the southwest washington area or all the old ugly nasty v8 cars theat belch out more crap and 5 rotaries put together?
or you could do what my bro does find family or friends that live in non emissions counties and get the car registered there

Trucks/semi's/etc. kinda vehicles have different emissions regulations than normal cars, just like buses and diesel cars too.
As far as the "nasty v8" cars, they have to pass the same way as we do, so ask them.

A nice guy named Nate with Bothell Import Auto referred me to F & F Auto Clinic. He seemed to like my car and was quick to point out that he isn't an expert on rotararies, even though his Bridgeported FC was parked in their lot.
According to Nate F & F can handle emissions on rotaries, and could get me either passed or waived without having to sacrifice horsepower...I guess I'll find out soon enough.
Nate also mentioned that Import Autos rotary specialist Steve had passed away last year. I believe I have heard his name mentioned here in the forums before...
