Question 1985 GS S4 NA 6 port with Long Primary ticket

Hey all,

I got a "Defective Exhaust" ticket.

Any ideas if I contest the ticket?
I am having some presilencers installed asap.

I was going to take pictures and send them in via mail to show that I have fixed the issue.

Thanks,

~Tim

Yeah the cop said "man your exhaust is way too loud".
I missed a gear on the floating bridge in Seattle. Guy was on a motorcycle. Rode my **** to where if I had to slam on my brakes, he would have gone thru my rear hatch glass

So done with State Patrol, lmao.

I am going to install some presilencers this saturday if i can and contest the ticket with pics of the work install and a written receipt of the work done.

Idk if I want to hire my lawer for a $134 ticket when her rate is $285 one time :\

RCW 46.37.390: Mufflers required ? Smoke and air contaminant standards ? Definitions ? Penalty, exception.

Specifically this: (3) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the engine of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and it shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle not equipped as required by this subsection, or which has been amplified as prohibited by this subsection. A court may dismiss an infraction notice for a violation of this subsection if there is reasonable grounds to believe that the vehicle was not operated in violation of this subsection.

This subsection (3) does not apply to vehicles twenty-five or more years old

Yeah i don't think it matters what age your car is. I don't believe it's a moving violation. I would just pay it... I'll be going full RB exhaust soon.

Well damn! Can't be as bad as a full 3inch exhaust with a giant can.

I got pull over for this couple months ago, apexi gt with silencer installed, highflow cat and rb headers. I have the RCW 46.37.390 with me that time showed to the cop and still gave me a ticket. I just read the rcw subsection (3) to the judge then bam ticket was gone. Didn't even have to explain why my exhaust was loud. Just read the subsection (3) and you'll be fine

Thanks Jeremy!

I have quite a few lines to draw in sand, including he was on a bike, in a tunnel, and was closer than the required 50 feet by law for 1986 older and newer cars under 10,000 lbs. The Db limit is 95 for cars newer or older than 1986 as well.
Plus the fact like you said subsection 3 and also the fact that my exhaust is also only about a year and a half old.

Also I am getting some heavy duty presilencers installed hopefully this weekend

this is true, officer should know about this law if he is giving you a ticket, I guess just be happy he didn't shoot you.

find the RCW and print it out and leave that in your glove box and use it if you are stopped again.

don't pay anyone anything unless you just wanna give your money away
