And another thing, try to support the businesses that advertise in the magazine. Jason should buy a full page spread and list what is onsale for that month with the web page for his store. Or other online rx-7 businesses. Starting with Mazdatrix, racing beat, rx7.com (rotary performance), Pettit, and plenty of others should be beating down the door wanting to get ad space in the magazine. If they aren't, what's the price for ad space? There is no reason for majot shops NOT wanting to be in the magazine, keep on them about it.

Tim, keep in mind that RXTuner is competing with MazdaSport (formerly Miata magazine), which is a privately-owned but Mazda supported magazine offering coverage of all Mazda vehicles (Miata, RX-8, the new 3, etc). With a long (16 year?) track record and Mazda Tier 1 vendor status, they are obvioulsy the favorite marketing tool of Mazda and, thus, also favored by many vendors wanting to reach virtually all Miata and RX-8 owners.

It could also be said that the greatest advantage of RXTuner -- the Forum -- is also it's greatest liability. Vendors have not always felt welcome on the Forum and it is unlikely they will view the magazine as a separate entity.

None of this is necessarily fatal, but they are issues that need to be overcome. Puting out a consistent product (quality content and design) with balanced reporting and making it a good friend to vendors are things that must happen. Basically, I'm saying they can do it but it won't happen overnight; give it a few issue to reach critical mass.

FWIW, I hope they pull it off.

I understand why you make these assumptions, but they're wrong. And instead of addressing them, I'm just going to ignore them. The biggest problem with the forum is that people get to post their ideas as fact based on incomplete information.

Please don't patronize me by saying you understand why I think something, say I'm wrong, and then refuse to explain yourself. It's not very professional and would seem to indicate that you don't have a convincing counterpoint.

Is Mazda ready to support RXTuner with advertising? Are major vendors beating down your door to advertise? If you answer yes to both, I stand corrected. If you can't say that, my point stands: RXTuner will have to earn goodwill by consistently producing a quality magzine. I'm not being negative; just realistic.

As I've said before, I wish your publication luck, but it's hard to continue rooting for you when you display the kind of attitude that (intentionally or otherwise) came across in your last reply.

Maybe it's that I don't want to say anything right now. And that you have no idea about the forum and it's relationship with vendors.

And I don't appreciate being 'called out' in public. If you want an answer in private, you know how to reach me.

Ryan, this is a very small community. Do you really think I am unaware of the hard feelings many vendors have over past experiences with the Forum? What I have said is based upon personal conversations with numerous vendors; not rumors or innuendos, as you seem to suggest. Please don't publicly question the credibility of my statements without expecting a public reply defending them.

Hell, what about submissions...that's my question. Free and unpaid, just want to keep info coming to the magazine.

Hard feelings? We have offered vendors the opportunity to advertise on the forum. Some have taken it and some have not.
If there are any hard feelings it comes from the few that feel they have the right to advertise for free. Those are the ones that cant afford to advertise in the magazine anyway.

Ryan, congratulations on the big announcement. That kind of support will surely help you overcome the concerns I pointed out above (real, but perhaps now moot). Way to go!

So what kind of support did you get out of them anyway....a free mag to us all? a free subscription? Is this why people can't subscribe because now Mazda is just going pay for it to be sent to us? Whyno Feb issue if you have all the new support from mazda?

I think the reliability of your sources just went down a notch or two.
Sorry to bring this up again, but I just got confirmation that Ben is, indeed, a contributor to MazdaSport; he has a byline in the next issue. Obviously, this doesn't necessarily mean he has abandoned RXTuner, but why deny the relationship and call into question the reliability of my sources?
