Hey guys, I decided to top oil up when I saw some yellow "thing" on the cap:

Is that normal cause that scares me a little (engine has 125000km).

Thanks,

Well i have seen alot of different things on the oil caps, White, Blue, Black, and yes even Yellow. I would not worry that much about it, clean it off, check it in 100 miles. If there is alot there again, then dig deeper into it. But normally it is from the contaminants in the oil system. Water, Dirt. ect

Make sure the purge vent is hooked up on the oil filler tube.

Thanks your feedback.

Good to know it's not a problem. I'll keep an eye on it.

Its mostly condensation and a dirty oil system. When I worked at Valvoline I use to see it all the time. It usually forms when the weather starts to get colder. I get it in my car and it has a fresh rebuild, i wouldnt worry to much about it. Just keep an eye on it.

On my Rx8 we get this all the time on the dipstick. Its mainly when the weather starts turning cold and condensation occurs and what not. Nothing to worry about

There is a factory TSB that fixes that on the 04 and 05 RX-8s. The 06 and later have the factory fix already installed.

Yep 99% of the time if you have build up on the oil cap or dipstick it is because the purge valve is not working or has been removed.

To be sure, by purge valve you mean the PCV valve that goes from oil filler to the manifold?

Thanks for your answers by the way.
