is it worth it to get a tii and keep it stock?

hey i am planning on getting an FC tii. i dont think i will plan on modding for power. i am planning for reliability... i am thinking if i get one, i would just do mods to keep it running and that's all.

do you guys think its a waste of an FC? i figure it would keep the fc running and i dont have to worry about reliability because i not going to increase the boost or anything.

maybe suspension

Why would it be a waste? If you want it stock, leave it stock. *shrug*

There isn't much you will have to do to make the car reliable. Just fix all the issues inherent with a 20+ year old sports car and it will be as reliable as anything else on the road. After that it's not like you'll spend every 2 days fixing something, just regular maintenance.

hmm i might be in the market for an rx7. still looking around for a good car that isnt too over priced due to initial d tax. and i dont think i want the convertible fc either.

Buying a stock car means you aren't risking some idiot having made bad mods that would affect reliability. Assuming it was stock and not un-modded to stock...

Some basic stuff like a cat back would be normal in my book. A mid pipe (no cats) would not.

thanks for the heads up. i want it stock just for that reason. especially with a tii. i wouldnt want some kid to up the boost, mess up and sell it to me.

yeah i am hoping to find a old guy selling his fc that he babied.

now my question is if i get an NA fc with high mileage and need of a rebuild, could i put in a tii engine (jdm or usdm) preferably usdm. i have a friend who had an fc with a jdm engine in it. he bought it like that. come smog time (California) it didnt pass. the smog guy said he woulda let the visual pass if it passed the sniffer.

i couldnt really find the answer by searching either. so will a jdm engine pass smog or was it just his car. if i want a tii should i just look into buying a tii or a NA and put the tii engine in.

Yes, you can swap a TII engine into an NA. It is well covered in the FAQ.

A j-spec engine should be able to pass smog without an issue. There may be visual issues (no EGR on the j-specs) but as far as the tailpipe, it will be fine as long as the emissions controls are working.

I have an 87 n/a. Got lucky and bought it from a numbers cruncher for a great deal. Any way, I drive a lot for work, and my rx is what I drive. I've put 20,000 miles on it since I bought it 4 months ago. Only problem I've had, Alt went out. Reliable, comfortable, fast. 26 mpg, by far the most reliable car I've ever owned. Suspention first, then go from there. Sorry for the ramble, long day

sorry for the double post.

but i have an opportunity to pick up a 87 na. its pretty cheap. only problem is 170k. the suspension is probably shot. all stock. its reg non op and wont pass smog. it will start both cold and hot. but the clutch might be going out soon.

worth the risk?

(as long as it's clean and STOCK)

I bought my T2 becuz i wanted to build it, but like most fc ppl....financially challenged

the goal is to get a t2. but to find one stock seems almost impossible. everyone wants 3.5k and up for their modded t2. i am not saying anything wrong with these cars, but i find it fun to mod and would rather mod one myself. and from all the t2s ive seen, all of them are either modded or jdm swapped. no usdm t2s lately.

i considered getting an na only because i have the option to get a jdm engine myself and knowing it got done well.
