I would like input.. I have an 85 RX7GS 188k miles - purchased 3 years ago to keep in family. I know nothing about repair or running of a rotary engine and there are no shops that work on in my area that I know of in NW corner of Wa. State. So here goes: about 2 months ago idle speed began to become sporadic, current will not idle. I also noticed that the engine seemed to miss when I had been driving. I recently, and remember I do not know what I am doing, ran the engine, in neutral, up in revs. At approx. 4900 rpm there was a hesitation and a drop in rpm of approx. 300 rpm (I could also feel in the gas pedal). Oil pressure held at 60 psi. Temperature read higher than "normal" for the car, but not anywhere close to the "hot zone". Amps were steady at approx. 13.5. I did this process twice to verify results.


Any ideas on what might be the issue(s).. note that I only drive in late spring to early fall and never in inclement weather, garage keep. The previous 28 years in SoCal garaged.

When was the last time the car had a full tuneup? Plugs, wires, timing adjustment, carb, etc. etc. etc?

 

When I had it transported up from California about 3 year ago, in that time period I've driven about 2000 miles. Maybe 4 times in a given "diving" month. Late fall to May stays in the garage. Oil has been changed at the beginning of each driving year. Air filter is clean..
