will it pass smog?

I have a 1979 RX7 100% original. registered in California, was wondering what I could modify on the engine and still have it pass smog? want to put a full racing beat exaust and either change or modify existing carb. 1975 is the smog exemption year and does not look like its changing anytime soon. Thanks.

In order to pass the visual portion of CA emissions testing, you can't have any obvious changes that are not CARB legal. Judging from the 1980 FSM, it looks like you have a thermal reactor and a heat exchanger, so changing anything in that area will almost definitely fail you. That means a header is out of the question, unless you swap exhaust setups before testing. As far as the carb, I doubt a tech would notice modifications.
