I have a 1991 non turbo rx7 that I just installed a reman engine in. The trouble I am having is it runs good at idle and will rev up with no trouble but when put into drive it dies and I cant get it to take gas to keep running. It is also running rich the exhaust will burn your eyes. I had the injectors cleaned and flowed check they are good. I did check the map and it is good also. is there a good test for the air flow meter. Fuel pressure is good. smoke checked intake good also. any ideas? thanks mickey

My concern is a faulty torque converter. If the MAF were bad then the engine would not start at all. You've covered the bases here, especially with smoke checking for vacuum leaks. I had an 85 that would do the same thing, stall once it was put into drive. The torque converter was bad. I replaced the trans with a 5spd and ditched the automatic.
