Will I fit in a FD?
Hi,
I bit of a silly question, I know. However I am looking at buying a FD about 500Kms away from me and my brother asked me whether or not I would fit in the car I so desperately want, Now I am pretty concerned. I am a rather large guy, 6'4" 250lbs and a stocky build.
Because I am 500 Kms away from the car and I don't have a spare FD to try out I was wondering if someone had the measurements of the cockpit of their FD. Mainly the distances from the pedals to the backrest of the seat, the distance from the center console to the door panel, and the distance from the floor to the bottom of the steering wheel. or just your opinion if I would fit or not.
Secondly if I do not fit (my biggest concern is that my legs will be too long) is it possible to modify the interior so that I can fit.
Thank you in advance.

Since you are an honest guy about your size, wich is not bad for a normal car at all, i will be honest with you. The FD, is a car with a very small sitting compartment.
Im 174lbs and 6"1.
I have the seat all the way back on the rails, and i sit normally straight( no lol seat leanback). I can press the pedals all the way in with some angle in my legs when pedals all the way in.
When pedal all the way out and foot resting on pedal, i have to slightly spread my legs to prevent knee from rubbing steering wheel.
My head is baaaarely touching the roofliner( i have a sunroof).
I have seen slightly taller guys fit too, but i cant see it as comfortable.
I have a friend with an FD, hes about 30lbs heavier than me, and fits sizewise...
I strongly recommend finding someone with an FD close to you and test-sit their car, look on the region forums further down the forum here and try to get in contact with someone

Thanks for the help everyone. I live in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere in Northern AB, so I doubt I'll find anyone with a FD anywhere near me. I currently drive a 2G Eclipse GSX and I fit comfortably, and I fit in my brothers S13 180sx, however I am not comfortable in my friends SW20 MR2. Also I found a video from old top gear that has Clarkson driving a RHD FD and he is 6'5". So I am pretty sure I will fit it is just a question of comfort.
So one more question, Can the plastic behind the drivers seat be taken out so I can move the seat and rails back to increase leg room? As this is my primary concern

I'm 6'6" 250 and I know one or 2 other guys about that size. I'm not going to BS you, with a stock steering wheel and seats it is a tight fit. Here are some items that help:
1) Get a base/R1 model not a Touring Model. Models with sunroofs cost you about 2" of headroom.
2) Aftermarket steering wheel (330mm-350mm) + extension = glorious knee space.
3) You can shorten the clutch pedal if you have longer legs which helps.
4) Aftermarket seats help as well.
You will still probably be "tight" but if you love the cars like I do (and I've driven 8-10hrs one way in them) it isn't bad at all.

Comfort and fit is subjective. It can be tight in there for someone your size but I know guys bigger than you that own these cars and can live with the tight cockpit.
Best bet is to take your time. Maybe go to the Canada regional sub forum on here and try to find someone semi-local that you can meet up with to do a test fit.
