white smoke on startup
white smoke on startup
I've only owned my FC for 3 weeks and I cold started it after the car was sitting in the driveway for 3 days. There was white smoke from the exhaust
87 turbo II
compression 100
Had it checked out recently at reputable rotary shop and they claimed everything was okay.
As I understand white smoke is burning coolant. Other than apex seals, where else could coolant be leaking into engine? Why is that the white smoke is only there when it sits?
Sorry for all the ignorant questions. Thank you in advance.

Apex seals don't leak coolant. Coolant seals will though.
That said, if your shop checked it all out (including pressure testing the cooling system), it may just be cool ambient temps. That will cause water to condense in the exhaust system during cool down, which is turned to steam at the next start-up.
Burning coolant has a distinctive slightly sweet smell, unlike steam.

Have you noticed any loss of power?
if it is ligh smoke for less than 5 minutes, could be condensation.
if it is heavy smoke and last longer than 5 minutes.. coolant..
check the oil and coolant prior and fter a good drive, (let it coold down)if you notice
no change. it might be just condensation.

If youve completely blown a coolant seal you'll know it, the car will start rough and sputter, coolant level will drop fast, and you'll be seeing a lot of thick white smoke ; so much you won't be able to see behind your car and the car will overheat fast.
Its likely condensation that is coming out (water in the exhaust).
Even if it was a coolant seal slowly going it will be drivable for a while if you keep an eye on you coolant level and try to top it off as often as it lowers.
Just drive it have fun with it, until you really have a problem, just stay on top of the coolant staying full.
