when tuning ignition what do you aim for.
93 fd stock motor single gt35r turbo power fc commander i believe i have aftermarket injectors 1200s or somethin like that. (only at like 68%duty cycle at WOT). i bought this car clueless about 3 years ago and just now getting to learn what its all about.
any info or links on this matter would help me a ton. i have been attempting to tune my car myself with my power fc and i pretty much understand the air fuel pretty well . i got the pim option down pat as how to richen or lean out durring boost by using the pim volts and with the rpms. what i still havent gotten the hang of is the ignition. i understand how it works such as when u change it ur changing when the plug fires but what i cant seem to find is how do you know when your ignition needs to be advanced or retarded... i understand how to follow the map tracer and find out what part of the map im on at what time then that would be the area i would need to work on but how is it that i know what to do with that part. what should i be looking for.. knock? i seem to never have more than a 1-3 knock .. what i have found that makes me feel like my ignition needs to be messed with is that when i get on the gas it gets up to my pre set 12lbs fast and has good pull then it just lags from there on.. the rpms are slow to rise at that point.. i did notice that i was at a 10.0air fuel(which is probably lower than that cuz thats the lowest my guage reads) the whole time i was at 12lbs so i have been backing that off quite a bit in the pim section under the volts and i will continue to do that till i can get leaner than the 10.0 im gonna aim for 10.5 then lean from there in small incriments but when i started leaning from there the pick up got a little better ... ANY INFO on the ignition tuning and what to strive for would be appreciated. sorry for typing so much.
