Whats with the runners?

Ok, so I am what i would like to think of as extremely tech savvy when it comes to engines (maybe not so much as some of the other engineers in this forum when it comes to this particular engine) But I have noticed the intake runners on the wankel engines I have seen are soooooo long. What is the deal with that? I mean It does not seem to make sence to me to have runners so long, maybe its just that I still do not fully understand all the intricacies of rotary engines but from piston engines long intake runners usually aid in top end power where in a smaller displacement engine like a 13B you would want to pile on as much low end torque and power under the curve as possible.

Also, you could offset one port runner to be longer and one port runner to be shorter which should give you a nice medium.

Learned me... and sorry for the spelling for you gramar ***** out there...

Here's a thread that gives all the information you'll want on runner length: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...61#post1904761

Besides that, there is also a pressure wave created by the closing of the intake ports. The variable length runners on the S5 NA manifold takes advantage of this, and shortens the runners above 5200 rpm to maximize top end power. This pic comes from the S5 FSM.
