what is this thing???

im trying to figure out what this is? ive gathered a couple ideas but cant seem to get the proper name. what ever it is i need a new one, here is a pic of it

well what makes me think i need a new one is because, the wires that comes out of it to the plug, me and my buddy were wiggling them and upon doing so the car while running would bog down, we took the plastic cover off the top of it and my dumb *** friend was fiddling with the wires coming out and they all got sucked up in the rotating geer in the middle of the CAS so yeah thats why i need a new one... any suggestions i feel so dumb about doin that
