what model do I have

I have an 85 RX-7, 12a with no markings on the body to designate whether it's an S, a GS, or a GSL or a GSL-SE. I suspect the lack of body markings means that it's an S. The vin number doesn't seem to give any clues: JM1FB3318FO892517.

Thanks, Dennis

do you have the car manual? if not you could try comparing the different features (internal and external)

If you have rear disc brakes and a front oil cooler then its a GSL i think. If not then its a GS,S or base.

there's already a thread somewhere that tells what model had what options. but if urs is drum brake rear, that rules out gsl. and it being a 12a, that rules out gsl-se.

model

Thanks for your posts. I do have the owners manual, but there doesn't seem to be anything in it to give me a clue. You would think that the vin number would contain a code for the model number, but it doesn't. The rear brakes are drums not discs, so I guess that rules out the GSL. I guess I'll have to be satisfied with knowing that it's either an S or a GS. Dennis
