i was reading the FAQ and it suggests NOT to use synthetic, and i asked my rx7 buddy and he said not to also due to it burns a lil oil with every combustion, you should lose about a quart of oil every 3,000 miles. just wait i learned in 5 hours

you can use synthetic if you want.

But make sure you use a good quality brand synthetic oil.
You can also use oil that are branded by "rotary tuners" like idemitsu or Trust rotary oil, but they can be very expensive, and usually have to be ordered by mail.

There is nothing wrong with using regular motor oil in a rotary, just make sure its the right weight for the season (also depending on how you drive)

I use vavoline motor oil
20w50 in the summer, 10w30 in the winter.

I use Castrol GTX2 non synthetic!
make sure you use non synthetic though! i drive a jap import S5 and thats wat everyone here (australia) has recommended! rotaries inject sump oil into the rotor chamber to lubricate the apex seals. and with synthetic oils aparently they leave behind an ashy residue that doesnt burn so it ruins the seals after awhile! i might be wrong but thats wat i was told! so im gonna stick by it

hope that helps buddy!!

It depends on the synthetic, crappy ones yes, good ones no.

Mazda racing has used synthetic oil for a long time, if its good enough for them its good enough for us.

Castrol 10w-30 non synthetic. Unless the omp is disconnected/ blocked off, then I'll run a 10w-30 full synthetic and premix with a synthetic blend premix oil. I use Pennzoil synthetic blend marine premix as it's readily available in gallon containers for like $14 or so.
Speaking from experience, I've pulled apart a block that was running a full synthetic with the omp still intact and working, and everything looked like an oily mess inside as well as the exhaust passages and inside the turbo.
To sum this up: Synthetic oil is excellent as long as the omp is not there and you're running premix.

But that's me.

I'm not talking engine oil, I'm talking premix. --- and it's a synthetic blend, not a full synthetic premix. It's readily available and I've been using it for 3 years/ 43,000 miles, and everything looked better and cleaner when I had it apart 12,000 miles ago, as opposed to every rotary I've taken apart and built thus far.

Exclamation What Kind Of Oil?

[B]Under :[/B ]Frequently Asked Questions on the 2nd Generation RX-7 - FAQ for FC

Can I use synthetic oils in my Rotary engined car?
Yes and no. Mazda officially does not recommend the use of synthetic oils in rotary engines, however, long term and racing use has shown that the better synthetics (Redline, Amsoil, Neo, Royal Purple, Mobil1) are perfectly fine to use in a rotary engine, and will generally result in a 1 to 2% horsepower gain. However use of poor quality synthetics (like Valvoline, Castrol Syntec, Havoline, Etc) will result in build up due to high ash content left from these oils when they are burned. It is believed that is why Mazda did not recommend synthetics, because the couldn't pick favorites.

Other notes:
The Mazda Factory racing departments recommend and use ‘synthetic’ oils including the winning 1991 Leman’s 20-G 4 rotor Mazda 787B.

MazdaComp USA printed manual (now Mazdaspeed) recommends the use of synthetic oils for racing conditions.

Redline, Amsoil and Royal Purple Synthetic Motor Oils have been used in rotary engines (both race and street) for ten plus years with excellent results.

Most Synthetic Motor Oil is compatible with the bearing material, sealing elastomer's, and combustion seals used in a rotary engine.

What oil should I use in the FC?
According to Mazda:
In starting and operating temperatures below 20F, use 5W30
In starting and operating temperatures between 0F and 80F, use 10W30.
In starting and operating temperatures above 30F, use 20W50

I think what you're missing is the fact that (from what I know) Mazda, Racing Beat, Mazdatrix, etc. did not use the oil metering pumps when using synthetic oils, but rather premixed their gas. I personally prefer the use of synthetics, as long as the oil itself is not being injected into the chamber via the oil metering system. Also, I am not referring to synthetic 2-cycle premix oils in this statement, but rather the engine oil that is in the oil pan. Synthetic engine oil is not meant to be burned, whereas synthetic 2-cycle oil is.

Also, read this statement here that is from the Mazdaspeed website:
