Hello everyone!

I had a some sensor(?) on my water pump fall off. It must have gotten stuck in the drivebelt during driving because now I can only find a loose cord that lacks insulation.

But what was the thing that is missing???

I attatch some pictures with the sensor location inside the yellow circle.
I have looked in the workshop manual and can't see anything being placed there.

Hope somebody knows...

I think that is the coolant level sensor.

By the way, that is the thermostat housing, not the waterpump.

Isn't the coolant sensor the one attatched to the black wire crossing the yellow circle?

Interesting. This is what a stock thermostat housing looks like.

If I understand the frame of reference on your photo, it almost looks like someone tapped into the housing - perhaps for a water temp sensor for an aftermarket gauge.

That isn't the best place for a water temp sensor by the way. A better place is to use the coolant hose going to the throttle body behind the UIM.

That is interesting. I thought the car was stock. Guess I have to try to find the other end of the cord, because I don't have any extra gauge.
I believe you get the framework right, marked with an X where I had my strange sensor.

That IS a stock thermostat housing - FOR AN AUTOMATIC CAR

I believe the automatic computer uses that sensor to force the torque converter to lock up sooner if the car gets too hot.

If your car is a 5 speed and just has the automatic thermostat housing, don't sweat it unless the broken sensor starts leaking water or something.

If its an automatic - it will run fine without that sensor anyway.

Thanks alot! The car is an automatic. Good thing it is not that important. If it was I guess I would already have noticed
Do you know if it can be replaced with same kind of sensor the manual has?

i was thinking it was an extra sensor on a j spec motor, but you nipped it in the bud!

Other than the fact that the plug is different, I'm not sure.

If you absolutely want to hook it back up again - maybe someone in the wanted/for sale section can hook you up with a connector and sensor.

At least you know what you're looking for now.
