Your profile says 88 rx7. I have a 3rd gen, and it has a pipe that comes off the cat and goes to the air pump. I dont know if the 2nd gen is the same, but if it is and you dont have an air pump you can cap it off/weld it closed.

It's the split air pipe. It connects to the lower intake manifold. Air from the airpump goes to the cat to clean up the emissions a bit.

You'll need that pipe to activate your 5/6 aux ports. You could probably pass the smog test since from my understanding the split air pipe only delivers extra air when you're in 5th gear. The port air from the air control valve supplies most of the air needed to clean up emissions. If the smog tech sees it missing you could fail the visual inspection.

It could pass the sniffer test, but not a full visual. It's a metal tube tube that goes to a check valve connected to the lower intake manifold. The barb below the check valve feeds the auxiliary ports. Fabricating it is too much work, so just buy one off someone parting out a car or someone that doesn't live in california.

Probably not. My FC tends to run a little rich, and without the extra air in the cat the extra gasoline won't get burned off.

^I don't know how else to say it. It can pass. The blockoff on the manifold side will not be very visible, but a capped air feed tube on the cat is a big red flag.

If you can get it past the visual inspection, then you might try draining the fuel tank and filling it up with a gallon of E85. Once your smog test is over, race your car over to the nearest gas station and fill it up with real gasoline.

E85 is an 85% ethanol, 15% gas blend. He is mentioning something similar to the denatured alcohol trick for passing the sniffer test. Take a look at the 2nd generation FAQ thread , there is a whole section about emissions. If you're not worried about the visual, just run it and see what happens.
