ON voltmeter jumping to 16 volts

Hi all, so my idle seems to be fairly even, however my voltmeter needle looks like a squirrel in the middle of the road (going back and forth)

im pretty sure its the voltage regulator, so my question is; what are the common symptoms of my voltage regulator going, and should i get it re-built, or replaced? thanks in advance

The symptoms would be if the voltage climbs too high. In your case you need a different alternator. And have you made any changes to the car from an electrical perspective lately which might have resulted in your problem.

Check the alternator wiring before you replace it. Follow the B+ wire and ground and see if it's corroded or loose terminals.
