CT Voltage gauge issues

I own a 87 FC and has been running perfect until a couple days ago. I was driving to my pops and the voltage gauge needle started to twitch. It usually stays at 14 steady but on that day the needle kept twitching and then dropped. It would twitch drop then go back or drop all the way and car would shut off. This has been happening for the past few days. Is it dirty or bad ground or alternator? I hope its not my alt.

look at the connection at the back of the alternator.Clean it up and see if that fixes it.
It doesn't sound like a failing alternator, just a bad connection.
