not normal.
have you checked the coolant level frequently to see if you are eating any coolant?
what does the smoke smell like?
Have the injectors been serviced lately?

^I'm with you.......
Copied from one of my earlier posts on a (likely) related subject..............
*Stumbling idle on cold start-up that clears up quickly. The combustion chamber is fouled with coolant. As soon as it's purged or burned up, your car will run fine until the next cold start.
*Slightly sweet exhaust smell, especially on start-up. See above. Coolant is being burned and it has a distinctive smell.
*"White smoke" (steam) on cold start-up even in warm/hot weather. See above.

Whether it's worth buying depends on the price, condition of the rest of the car and the level of your ambition. If you've done those rebuilds on piston engines, the rotary, IMO, it much simpler. Just download a copy of the Factory Service Manual from any number of on-line sites or get a hard copy, search here in the appropriate sections for tips and go step by step. There are also some DVDs available from Rotary Aviation and others on rebuilding the 13b.
If you're not familiar with the rotary and how it works, I recommend a read before you start. This is a great book IMO and an easy read...
You will almost certainly find other things besides the coolant seals...bearings, oil control rings, injectors that should be replaced or serviced during the rebuild. Irons and housings depend on mileage and how long that coolant seal's been leaking. Hard seals and hard seal springs would be a no-brainer while it's apart. A VERY rough estimate of $1500 or so in parts, 'O' rings, gaskets, sealants etc.

The video didn't show that at all.It showed it running like ****.
It's your choice to get this car and you know that it has issues,so only you can make that decision.
If you have the knowledge under your belt to fix it then I would say GO for it,but If not then I would want something that actually runs half decent and get to know the car while it is running.
After all they are fun when they actually work!
Personally I stay away from other people's Headaches, and this car would be one of them IF I went looking for a car to buy.
I would wait for another one and Pass on this one.
Then again,as I said,your money..

I drove it. Ran pretty good but then again I don't have much experience with these cars. I really want to buy it because it runs drives and everything electronic works. Interior is pretty good and so is the exterior. Yeah it is leaking fuel from a fuel line and seems to be flooding itself. But man I wanted it. It was on its way to my house but between me wondering if it was good or not and my wife annoyed about another car I couldn't pull the trigger. I wish I could have one of you seasoned guys with me while I'm looking. Who lives in AZ? I really want one and this seemed like a great deal.

Find the Regional section that pertains to your area (like West Section for instance).I don't know the USA so you would have to just cruise the sections until you find which section is best suited to you.
See who frequents that section and Hey!,PM them!..
I know Myself,If I get a PM and I can help I will..
(hell if you gave me a return ticket from here I'd GO!..lol!..just feed me!)
