Variable Resistor

this question actually intrigued me when I saw I in the queue. do you have a particular variable resistor in mind?
generally speaking, I think they are basically rheostats.

It is on the strut tower near the air box on Fc's..sort of looks like an EYE on a bracket..has L-R on it.
That is the only Variable resistor that is in the car that I can think of..
unless you count the Stereo volume control..(WHAT?..I said the...forget it!..can't hear ya!)

Technically speaking, a variable resistor is any resistor which can be set to multiple outputs (for example, volume *****, wiper speed switches, the click wheel on your Ipod...)
