Vacuum/pressure flow restrictor pill ???
Ok, so I've got this '90 Turbo II, and I'm replacing bad vacuum hoses. I have the air pump off do I can get to them. Everything is stock Mazda except for the air cleaner and Street Port by Rotary Performance in Garland TX. I've replaced a few hoses already, and I tug on the one from the output of the turbo to ?? small steel line. It crumbles - it's toast. This is a REAL SHORT rubber hose, about 4 inches long. The gap it spans is only about 1 inch. INSIDE this crumbly hose is a small brass pill with a small hole in it. I almost didn't find it, except that I had to get a serrated steak knife to cut off the remaining hose bits. What is this little thing called? Is it supposed to be there? Should I clean it up and put it in the new hose?
Thanks,
NickDanger

Are you talking about an oil or coolant line to/from the turbo, or a vacuum hose? The only vacuum connections on a stock S5 turbocharger would be the line from the compressor housing to the wastegate actuator and the line tee'd in for the turbo duty solenoid (boost controller).
Do you have a picture? The only restrictor pill I know of on a stock car is in the hose to the boost sensor, which is on the strut tower.

Right, it's a vacuum/pressure hose from the turbo output to the wastegate actuator. I found the hose in the diagrams and illustrations in the factory maint. manual, finally. But I haven't found any ref. to a restrictor in the line. Smoothing out or slowing down the signal makes sense. Is this a standard Mazda part, or something the gurus at Rotary Performance added when they did the rebuild?

Bump,
I just replaced my ancient wastegate hose on the stock turbo as it was cracked and full of rust inside. I found there was a restrictor pill in the old hose. I left it out when I replaced the hose.
I want to know if I need to stuff that pill back in my new wastegate line.
Thanks,
~Kyle

Nope. I've stripped down 3 stock turbos and never noticed a restrictor inside the wastegate actuator line. Maybe I missed them, but there's no real reason you would need it.

Okay awesome, thank you.
Here is a picture for reference, since you say you have never seen it.
It was in the short hose that connects the metal hard line to the 90 degree turn out of the turbo snail.
