unlikely engine swap

A friend has offered me a rotary engine from (he thinks) an fc with a 5 speed transmission. I guess the car was in an accident, and the engine was pulled. I haven't looked at it yet, so I have no idea what condition or anything.

But I got to thinking, has anybody every tried to swap a rotary into a chevy s-10? Some people might not like the idea, but I was curious nonetheless.

The only problem I can think of, besides the substantial amount of work and custom fabrication needed, would be perhaps the weight. But the REPU couldn't have weighed more than a standard s-10 could it?

While were at it, what are some of the strager swaps people have put rotaries into?

If you build it up as a sweet n/a it will work out, or run it as a turbo if you are doing all the custom work anyway.

The REPU was a much older truck so it probably doesn't have a bunch of the safety features the S-10 would have making the S-10 heavier.

Rotarys have been in abunch of things, too many to list. I know there is a mustang running around with a rotary somewhere.

REPUs weighed in at around 2800 lbs, about the same as the FC. Only downside to the swap is the rotary may not have as much peak torque as the engine that came in the S-10 but with it's flatter torque curve, it produces more torque on average thoughout the rpm range. There have been a few rotary swaps into newer Mazda B Series pickups. Here's a link to the REPU forum for more info.
