Have any pictures of the engine in question? What year is your car? Is it turbo or NA?

There are a number of 13b engines, but there are some large differences between most:

13B NA - 1st gen GSL-SE
13B NA - 2nd gen '86-'88 NA models
13B Turbo - 2nd gen '86-'88 TII
13B NA - 2nd gen '89-'91 NA models
13B Turbo - 2nd gen '89-'91 TII
13B-RE - Japanese Cosmo
13B-REW - 3rd gen
13B-MSP Renesis - RX-8

my mistake..the used motor i purchased is actually off of an automatic fc...from what i can see theres a couple differences like the oil pan and an extra hose on the block..not sure if its a vacuum hose or what...with the oil pan...the motor i blew has two sensors on it as for the used automatic one...it only has one sensor....to answer your question my motor that i blew is an NA

btw...my car is an 87 NA...but the previous owner swapped out the motor before...so i dont know if he replaced it with the same one that came with it from the factory

Ok so what I'm getting from this is article is that the 13A is actually a 13B simply in a front wheel drive Luce . And that it actually came out in 1974 instead of 1984

Well then the article is wrong.

13A specs
2x 655 cc rotors for 1310 cc
Radius = 120mm
Offset = 17.5mm
Depth = 60mm

13B specs
2x 654 cc rotors for 1308cc
Radius = 105mm
Offset = 15mm
Depth = 80mm

well ... the only thing i would add is the original 13B, which was 1974-78 (i think). i don't know what it was used for outside the US, if anything, but we got it in the Rx-4, Rx-5 and Rotary Engine Pickup. i think i understand why it would go without mention in this thread, because it's SERIOUSLY unlikely it could have been the engine in question from the original post, but then again so was the MSP, and since we're already mentioning 13As and 13Gs, i figured i'd just give it a mention.

not a huge deal, but it was actually 2 years - 1984-85 GSL-SE.

your memory is fine. the only example of it i am aware of is (are) the engine(s) used in RB's Bonneville FD. however, i figure Mazda must have built it for something, i just don't know what that something is.

To answer the OP's question, an engine from an automatic FC can be swapped into a manual FC without trouble. There will be subtle differences, but the blocks are identical if from the same year/model. If you're unsure of what will be unused, reuse parts from your old engine.

btw...my mistake..i dont know if i mentioned this already..but the motor i picked up is from an automatic...the difference that i can see on the block is that theres a hose that goes out on the automatic 13b but i dont know where it goes....on my old manual motor..it connects to the oil fill pipe...ill try and take a picture of it so you can see what im talking about

13B 4 port also came in the RX-5 Cosmo. But considering they are exceedingly rare, that's likely not a concern.
