TX turbo advice

I got oil in my intake on my fd. I think the turbos are going out, what should I do? Should I rebuild the turbos it has, get 99 spec twins, or go with a single turbo application?

I would contact Rotary Performance in Garland (rx7.com) or Steve at Gotham (gothamracing.com). I think Gotham has closed but I can get you contact info if your interested. PM me if so.

I've got a similar problem, but mine only leak a tiny bit. I'm interested in staying stock as that's where the value will be later. I would opt for the 99 spec. Single turbo would be best for race application, but for street it's hard to beat the stock setup.

Good luck.

You can get good power from the twins. I would just get them rebuilt.

Only need to go single if you want to go hard core.

I've seen 3rd Gen's with stock twins go well into the 11's on slicks at the strip.

Rebuilding the stock twins works ok if yours aren't in bad shape to begin with. If they're pretty well burned up, rebuilding them is going to have a much lower success rate than buying a decent used set.

How much oil are you talking about? Do you see smoke out the tailpipe on full throttle? Do you see puddles in the low points of your intake? Are you seeing noticeable oil loss on the dipstick?

It is normal to have oil all over the inside of the intake. Unless you have the symptoms I listed above, your turbos are probably fine.

i dont know much about twins except for what i have been reading. But i am suffering from leaks constantly from my garret gt35, i have rebuilt it once which eliminated my intake oil leak, now i have an exhaust leak, and i am starting to get somewhat flustrated. After a one year ebuild getting the money together to get an atkins motor(when they took mine TII motor apart they found n/a rotors and rotor housings that looked like 60 grit sand paper) now i am dealing with torbo issues again.
But through this all i can say one thing....
I cant wait to drive it again!

So look around for a spare cheap if anything, fallow the guru's advise. Make sure you are at youre 10-8-10 and be prepared for everything to go wrong. Murphy is a schmuck.
