CA transmission rebuild

My 85 GSL-SE has a broken tailshaft housing and the bushing is ruined because of an unbalanced driveshaft. It looks to me like the previous driver decided to let the transmission blow on its own. So I'm left with the option of a junk yard transmission and a cracked and very damaged transmission. I bought a new bushing, oil seal and a new driveshaft from Mazdatrix. I haven't rebuilt this transmission but I would like to know if there has been anyone on this site that has rebuild the GSL-SE tranny or any of the compadible trannies. I'm going to do it myself so a hand made 2 1/5 wrench will be made or purchased from Sears. Any pointers or pics? Any information is helpful. Thanks guys!

I have not rebuilt an 85 trans but I have done a few 3rd gen transmissions.

There are complete details at www.davidgeesaman.com. Pehaps this will be helpful to you.

I'm not sure what you mean by the 2 1/5" wrench, but you can see I made a couple of special tools for the 3rd gen trans.

Nice, you did what I was planing on doing with the bags and stuff. I have that same book, very helpful. By the way, that is a very nice write up! I think it'll help with my teardown and rebuild immensely. I'll try to do as good a job as you did with my writeup and post what I did on here. Thanks!
