Exclamation Timing problems

I have been trying to tune up a 85 RX7 with the 12a engine and cannot seem to get the trailing timing mark to even move when moving the adjusting lever. I followed the workshop manuals instructions but it does not seem to work. Is there a secret to this procedure or do I have a distributer issue?

Welcome.

1. Make sure that the timing light is locking onto trailing. When you use it, compare it to where leading is showing you. Sometimes, the timing light will lock onto leading, even when connected to trailing.

2. Check to see if trailing even has spark. The issue in #1 above can happen even more when trailing isn't working at all.

3. You may have connections mixed up somewhere. Plug wires, wires from coil to distributor, connections to coil (+/-) terminals, etc.

Check #1 and #2 above and let us know. We can then check the wiring after that.
