Timing method for electronic ign

I was told somewhat how to set the distributor in place when the engine was turned after removing the distributor. This weekend I am planning to swap out my point setup on the 79rx7 to electronic and need some help on how to align the distributor. Someone mentioned that it is covered under a section in the Haines manual which I don't have and I do not see it in the chiltons manual that I do have. Could someone please elaborate on the proper method for me? I can't find a Haines manual in this entire town. Wally

glad to hear you bought an electronic distributor from mazdatrix, I think they even include a wiring diagram. I took a picture of how to align the distributor, just align the raised tally mark on the shaft with the dimple on the distributor gear. And if you still can't find a haynes manual I have a 2nd I could mail to, let me know.

Thank You for the photo and the offer of the manual but I just ordered one on Amazon. When the dimples are aligned does it matter if you install them in a certain direction such as toward the front, side, rear or with the adjustment slot positioned in the middle of the bolt hole? and should the timing mark be set at top dead center on the compression stroke of the front primary? Sorry to be a pain but you seem to be helping me out quite a bit. I have worked on engins for many years but this wankel has me scratching my head. Wally

after you align the distributor put it in to the front cover in the same direction as it was stock with the base plate adjustment slot over the hold down bolt, and make sure before you do this that the main pulley is set at top dead center which is the first mark on the pulley.
