I have found a seller that wanted 12.500$ for a rx7, i said i could take it for 8000$. he says the car won’t start at the moment, and the twinturbo is the problem. i want this car for project and im not the most experienced but are motivated to do some work on it. thoughts?
Even at 8k, if its a solid car and is straight and fairly rust free, I don't think its a terrible price. Plan on rebuilding the engine and sinking some cash into the car though. Plan for the worst but hope for the best.
I would of course try to negotiate a lower price, especially if the seller is willing to take 4k off the price right away.
Needs a lot of parts and paint. It’s a RHD which may appeal to you but that appeal isn’t universal. So it might limit the market if the project runs out of steam...like it probably did for him.
And off-hand I can’t think of a reason the turbos would keep the engine from at least starting and running. I’d say the (partial) engine (and transmission) sitting outside on a wood pallet might be a hint of deeper issues. You don’t need to remove the engine to replace turbos.
I think the fact that homie is trying to blame the turbos for the car not starting is an indication that he has no idea what hes doing with the car. Its possible he got it with the same intentions as you and realized he could not fund it and is now trying to get from under it. Haggle him as low as you can get it and then take it to an rx7 shop. I'll bet anything there is a PILE of nonsense hidden in that car
I would stay away, honestly. I can't tell from the photos, but if the exterior is anything to go by, the interior is probably not great either. If you're looking for a beater car to modify just to be fast, you could probably do better with a thousand other models of cars. And if you want to fix it up, it looks like you'll have to undo all the fuckups this guy did. You could buy the $1000 roller someone posted in the for sale section, import it, still save $4k over this, and you'd be working from a better starting point imo.
