Played around with the RX7 some today. I fired it up, it idled.... I put it in gear... it kept running, BUT it had ZERO throttle response in gear.... put it back in park... it would rev fine... back in gear....nothing.... does this sound crazy??? A buddy was watching and could see the throttle open and close.... but nothing

Could be a clogged cat. If you remove the Oxygen Sensor and the car runs better then it should lead you to believe that the exhaust is restrictive. Also, unplug the TPS and see if it reacts the same.

I've already run it with no cat, makes no difference. I'll unplug the TPS later today. I've just never seen a throttle open up and the motor not rev at all..... except when it's in park

You also might want to check pin 1R of the ECU which relates to the Neutral Switch. In neutral it should read below 2 volts w/key to on and in gear it should read 12 volts w/key to on. And since this problem arose have you checked for error codes?
