ive given up on searching, nothing i searched brought up the results that i needed/wanted.


so my heater hose that runs to the firewall on the drivers side split the other day on me. so i searched around town (friend drove me, didnt drive the 7) and i found that napa is the only place that carries them but napa was closed.

so i cut the swollen part off and put the hose back on as a temp fix till tomorrow.
i filled the coolant back up and bled it and bubbles came out of the radiator cap for a bit then stopped, it also dumped some coolant out the bottom somewhere (was unable to see because there is a giant piece of plastic in the way) for about 20-40 seconds but then it stopped.

now my temp gauge stays at cold then randomly jumps to H, then back to C then real fast back to H.

any idea what the problem is? did i do something horribly wrong?
also, anyone have a pic of the bleeder screw?

 

Check the connection to the water temp sender. It's has a single-wire bullet connector, and it located right by the heater hose connection to the block.

and what does this go to? found it just hanging out down there.

 

That appears to be the water temp sender wire. Yellow with white stripe? It should connect via a bullet connector to the top of the sender.

 

For both S4s and S5s...

The only two single wires in the area should be Y/W (water temp sender) and Y/R (oil pressure sender), so I'd say it's a pretty good bet the one you're holding is for the temp sender. If it was bouncing around, it could have been grounding out, which would make the gauge go crazy.

The other plug appears to be something for an AT transmission. You'll find a number of unused plugs on the car.
