temp gauge reading hot

well pretty much my problem is that today i changed out my transmission and not for some reason my temp gauge isnt working properly its reading extremely hot its goes all the way to the "E" in TEMP. and the car is completely cold, i checked to make sure that it was connected which it is....i searched but came up with nothing that would help me and i checked the the F.A.Q and nothing there either. could it be that my temp sensor decided to take a crap at this very moment or what can it be...
thanks

The connection to the water temp sender is on the same harness as the transmission wiring. Check the connector/wire. It's a Y/R wire (I think), and the sender is below the oil pressure sender on the rear iron.

yup ive checked it but it is connected, that was the first thing that i checked, i would think if it was disconnected it would just not work at all and read cold all the time

Yeah, it would just not work at all if it were unplugged. But if the connector were dirty, the resistance could change (which means different readings). It could just be coincidence and the sender has failed.

fixed it turned out that the wire was pinched between the trans and the motor, its just the single wire as my car has a megasquirt, alot of the the stock harness is gone and only the wiper motor wires and the coolant wire were saved, so i fixed it and not it works perfect again

thanks for the help
