NC tachometer problem

my tach sits at 2000 when car is off and sometimes it jumps around when running. i am pretty sure that 2000 is zero and it is going up from there. is there a way to adjust or calibrate it, or maybe a loose wire, or do i need a new guage?

i also have this problems but mine sits at 2000 when running and randomly jumps around sometimes but it doesnt sound like it is idling that high. Also a 93 and also in NC
