suspension in a 89
suspension in a 89
ok so i got this suspension switch. says normal on one button, sport on the other. supposedly adjusts the suspension. dont work at all. where do i begin. i would really like to have that feature when im running the car. and what kind of numbers am i lookin at to fix it? (asside from the new shocks, struts, and coilovers that are all shot)
Well the downside to that system is that you need all OEM parts to run it. By the way, its refereed to as the AAS or Auto Adjust Suspension.
The shocks you can get from Mazdatrix.
Front Right: $230 http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.as...m=34-700A-FB52
Front Left: $230 http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.as...m=34-900A-FB52
Rears: Need 2: $160 ea: http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.as...m=28-7000-FC04
You should be able to use any spring, but I am not 100% on that. If you are replacing with OEM springs
Left Front: $100: http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.as...m=34-0210-FB44
Right Front: $100: http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.as...m=34-0110-FB44
Rears: 2 Needed: $110 ea: http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.as...m=28-0110-FC01
If you get a set of aftermarket springs you can find them for roughly $250 - $350 dollars. Or you can snag a used set on the for sale section for cheap if you wait for em.
The Auto Adjust part sits on the top of the shock and has a rod that connects to the shock. Turns one way to soften and the other way to stiffen.
I am not sure where to get those, and its at the limit of my knowledge of the AAS system.
If you can live without the AAS feature you can save some money and get regular shocks with or without manual adjust.
I would start by trying to diagnose each system separately to figure out exactly whats broken and what needs to be fixed.

I myself have an 86 GXL with the AAS (automatic adjusting suspension) slightly works.. but with the possibility of my struts being 23 years old.. i cant really tell.
I plan on going with some decent springtech struts and ditching the AAS for now. thinking of maybe an tein 1 inch drop spring as well.. car sits pretty low anyways.. and eventually bigger rims.. soo 1 inch is good for me.
In the end i plan on some fully adjustable tein coilovers.. but thats around $1500 bucks...... same price as the oem replacements though! haha
best of luck.. amazing feature.. spendy to keep up i found out..

on my 90 rx7 when the switch is on normal the car bounces like when you take a girl for a night out when you switch it over to sport you can hear the suspension adjusting and the voltage drops a little for half a second now the car is stiff as can be...
dont do it you are beter of buying the adjustable suspension and adjust it your selfe with your fingers becsue if set it up how it is in the car you can only have 2 diferent suspnsion stifening setings when your suspension setup has like 8 diferent setings you can use on each side wich comes in handy when you are hitting the touge
