i have 85 with 12a engine i think S charger b best for me as wont nead 2 ad electronices 4 turbo controls just use a carb. m geting into auto cross & think turbo lag will hurt times. althow i saw a 12a turbo setup a guy was petling with a side draft carb, not sure i understand how this can work without bing boosted thru like a fi throtlle body (wouldnt boost presure blow out thru carb)

i'd say supercharger.
Low engine speeds and turbos don't work that well together, ew to turbo lag.
You can feel the power more at an instant with a super charger.

The stock turbo on an FC has zero lag, and builds boost under 3k rpm. Besides that, it will also make more power than the superchargers available for the FC. There is only a handful of people using superchargers on rx7s, but there are a TON using turbos.

This question is a blanket statement unless we know your ultimate goal. Both have their pros and cons.

If peak power is your only concern then Turbo all the way. If a more balanced power curve is the question at hand go SC.

But again your goals as far as power, driving style, purpose are all needed to answer that question.

as i mentiond b 4 im starting auto cross and the turbo cars seam 2 do a lot of "poping off" dousnt the turbo have 2 wind back up each time this hapens ? If i sound confusd bout this i am, i dont have a complete under standing of boosted systems yet wich is also y super chargers look like beter choice 4 me. i did drag racing back in "70's" very fuw imports back then, super charger systems were simple in comparison. ive seen where jdm rx7's have twin turbos. duz the smaller tubos spool up faster. i need as wide band of midrange power as can get.

It sounds like you need to read up on forced induction.

First, all 3rd gen RX7s use twin turbos (when stock), not just "jdm rx7s". Smaller turbos spool up faster, which means boost comes on at lower rpms. Take a VW GTI for example. The turbo it uses is TINY, so it produces peak torque at something like 2000 rpm.

Second, the "popping off" is the blow off valve venting pressurized air when the throttle plates close. A smaller turbo will spool back up almost instantly once you get back in the throttle. An oversized turbo will take a moment to spin back to full speed and start producing full boost (this is turbo lag).

im running a supercharger setup at the moment, and it has gobs of low to mid end power. however, the high end is just not there. when i was racing auto-x, i was usually high into the RPMs, and feel a turbo would be better suited to this.

s/c vs turbo

This is an excellent statment, very well put.

I run both I prefer supercharger for street use and autocross I think that is your best option but without knowing more of what you are doing there is no way to tell.

Statements made in this thread are correct there are more people using turbo than s/c but a big part of that is mazda used a turbo on the factory system. It would say that it is easier to turbo just because of the sheer volume of stuff available.

I would tell you to figure out what you want to do then try to find a car you can drive that is supercharged and one that is turboed and see which feel you like better because ultimately if you don't like it, it does not matter.
