Sunroof replacement?

The sunroof on my 88 AE TII doesn't seem to work. I was thinking about just getting rid of it and replacing it with some lexan. Has anybody had experience with this in the past?

What exactly is wrong with the sunroof? Most of the time, just cleaning the tracks and cables fixes them.
