so i drove my 88 gxl home today and started tinkering with it to find out i can't open the sunroof. Any tricks or tips to get it to open, right now it sounds like it moves an inch then stops but i haven't seen any progress in it actually opening up.

 

This is a very common problem. I think it's even covered in the FAQ. You need to clean the rails and cables.

Search "sunroof stuck".

i would suggest also getting it clean & oil it (WD40)
