Sudden loss of power
Hi there,
Right, I bought my first rotary about 3 months ago. It's an amazing car in amazing condition. It is a 1995 Efini RX-7 Twin Turbo.
I was driving her home this weekend after a long trip when a truck coming towards me dropped a few cement slabs right in front of me. It was so quick I had no time to do anything. A few slabs went under the car and one hit the front bumper which caused quite a bit of damage.
Yesterday, while driving the car home after a nice 30km stretch at 140kmh, I lost all power. The engine is revving, but insanely so. Just light pressure to the accelerator pushes the revs up to 5000rpm.
I pulled into the closest petrol station and noticed white smoke billowing from under the car, looked like it was coming from the front axle. It smoked for a really long time. The engine wasn't overheating those, was still at normal temp, and the oil was fine. Also noticed a really bad leak, not sure if it is oil or petrol, also looks like it's coming from the front axle.
I've read that the first turbo only boosts at 2000rpm, so I'm wondering if maybe one of the slabs damaged my exhaust or manifold so that the turbo isn't boosting properly?
I wanted to ask here before I take her in to get fixed because there is only one place here that work on rotaries and I'm a little scared of being ripped off.
My main concern is mostly whether you think this could be caused by the cement slabs doing damage to the engine or if it's a completely different matter. I can claim from insurance if it's from the slab, but not if it's anything else.
Thanks for taking the time to read all of this.
