I was having problems with flooding, and while doing the whole unflooding process I stripped the first 2 or 3 threads on the leading plug for the front rotor. I had my friend that I thought was competent come and help me use the chaser. Long story short, he followed the stripped threads in with the chaser and cut them in pretty far. Is there a way to fix this without pulling the engine out of the car?

 

You may have some luck with a Helicoil insert. They make repair kits for spark plug holes.

Have your friend pay for it.

 

I was looking into them, but I am worried about some of the shavings falling into the housing if I try to do it with the engine still assembled. I have also read that the different metal that the inserts are made of can heat up and cause preignition.

 

Squirt ATF into the housing and try the Helicoil.That will allow any shavings to mix with it and push it out the exhaust.
It is a hell of alot better than taking the engine apart just to switch the housing out.

 

How much ATF should I put in? I will coat the tap in grease, so I should catch most of the shavings then. Is it possible to screw the insert in too far? I can't see that being good at all if there is a piece of steal sticking out in the path of the rotor.
