Stock to aftermarket head unit question
Hi, I've only had my rx7 for 2 months now so Im still a bit unexperienced with it needless to say.
I've already done pretty much all the "restoration" work I can think of. I have put in a new clutch, any seal that I could get to while the tranny was out, new vac lines, new fuel dampner, all new fluids, new belts, new hoses, new thermo, spark plugs, spark plug wires, cleaned and regrounded the grounds, etc etc etc... so now I have started to work on the things that aren't important but more are just annoyances.
It had the stock audio in it of course so the speakers are shot and a bunch of bottons don't work on the radio. Im putting in a pioneer deh-p6000 ub. I went ahead and ordered the the mounting brackets, wiring harness, and power antenae relay from crutchfield. When I pull the stock radio i noticed what looked like 2 antenae connections from the side of the radio going into the dash. When you pull them apart, the connections from the dash have one female and one male. I started looking at my aftermarket head unit and it only has one female antenae connection coming off of it.
Finally to my question, how am I suppose to hook it up if my new radio only has one connection? Is there an adapter I can buy?
Thanks

RX-7s have a diversity antenna: one antenna in the windshield and one at the back of the car. The radio decides which antenna to use based on signal strength.
Use the lead from the rear antenna.

I actually ended up making up an adapter. I had some female to male antenae adapters laying around so I spliced them together.
Will it cause complications if I use the adapter and the signal is essentially double fed?
I am still waiting for parts so I haven't hooked it up yet.
Oh and which one of the connections goes to the power antenae? The female or the male?

Hello hv_lineman if you have an FD, disregard the other little connector and use the normal type female one (I think it runs on the bottom right side). Just go to a local car audio install shop or Best Buy install shop and buy a male to male car stereo antenna adapter cable and you should be fine. Thats what I did and works great. What year is the car, is it a touring w/Bose system?

Check the 2nd gen FAQ to find out how to operate the power antenna.
I suggest you just use one antenna. The rear antenna will almost always work better then the windshield one.

Thanks aaron.
I'll just hook it up like you suggested.
Im not confused at all about the relay, I just need to know which lead from the dash to hook up my stereo to, the female or the male.

I don't know off hand. Check the wiring diagram as there is only one lead to the antenna. As odd as it sounds, I've never seen stock stereo wiring that has not been hacked.

Will do Aaron. Thanks
Yeah the only reason why I bought the car was because it was so stock. I got it from the original owner. He had every receipt for every single oil change.
