Still Working on My Carb. having issues with float adjustment.

Hey guys

Okay so i am rebuilding my carb, all is going well, everything is cleaned and ready to be reassembled. I am currently stuck on my air horn rebuilding, I am adjusting my floats and i understand how to measure the clearances, but my question is.

Does there need to be clearance between the tang and pin and tang and needle?
Or does it not matter as long as the tang is between the pin and needle?

I know these float levels are very important and touchy.

I dont want to put it back together and not work so i am trying to get all the info i possibly can gather so i dont screw anything up.

Neither my haynes manual or sterling metal works mentions any clearance in this area but i figured someone may be able to give me a little insight on the issue

thanks again .

Before anyone thinks im an ***, i should mention that i have read sterling's page and directions over and over, and i did not mess with my floats just because.

One of the floats was way off(and constantly flooding), so this adjustment was necessary and not by choice.

just wanted to clarify, because i know this topic has been done to death and i am probably over analyzing it.

Download the carb manual. On page 57, item 26, you'll see how the needle, spring and pin go together with the seat, item 25. The tang on the float rests on the pin. When setting the minimum clearance with the air horn upside down, just the weight of the float will compress the spring pushing the pin down. When setting the maximum clearance, the pin, spring and needle should slide down, staying inside the seat, and rest on the tang. If the needle fails to slide out, burnish the 4 sides of it or it will hang up once the carb is assembled.
