Starting a shell
So I recently was in an accident and my FD was marked as totaled, although the drivetrain seems to be in perfect condition from what I can tell... only body damage. If I am willing to put in the effort and time to do it myself, how much would I be looking in the cost of parts to do a swap of the motor, turbos, etc into a shell and get it running? Old build was a freshly built motor, single turbo, large street port, big injectors, fuel pump, v-mount, the whole 9 yards.
Really I'm just wondering, is it as simple as I am thinking it would be? Obviously not easy, but I'm curious.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you and anyone else involved made it out without injuries. Total cost will depend heavily on what all is missing from the hypothetical rolling shell you buy, and what all is unusable from your totaled car. I would recommend confirming that you can turn the engine by hand (socket and breaker bar on the crank pulley nut) and checking the power plant frame and transmission case for cracks, if you haven't already. Worst case scenario, your PPF and or driveshaft could be warped, but I would think that that's unlikely. Where was the impact to your car? If it was in the front and caused frame damage, you'll almost certainly need a new radiator and AC condenser. Having gone through this whole process myself, I can tell you that it's really not very difficult, but removing certain parts from a wrecked car can be interesting. I would definitely advise pulling the engine and transmission together. If you're able to do so, I would recommend posting pictures of your FD so that others can point out items of interest.

J/K. Agree with the above, will depend heavily on what condition your hypothetical 'roller' is in. Since the car was totalled yet you apparently still own it, can we assume you didn't have collision coverage? Or put another way, if the car was totalled and you had collision coverage, you'll have to buy the car back for the drivetrain. How much will that cost?
