Starting problems

I recently purchased an 88 model that had been sitting for about 10 years. I got it home, cleaned it up and then tried to crank it. I changed the oil and filter first, then cleaned the throttle body. It turned over with no problem. It wouldnt idle on its own unless I spayed a little throttle body cleaner into it. Step son went out one day and changer the fuel filter and now the car will do nothing when I turn the key. I read some of the forums and tried what I read but still nothing. I have shorted the clutch switch. Shorted the starter relay. Tried jumping the short wire to the solenoid and all the starter will do is click. I have had the starter checked and it checks fine. Any suggestions would be greatful. Please help

Have you checked the injectors? Or made sure the sparks plugs are firing properly?

I finally gave up and had it towed to shop today. The coils are firing though. When I would turn the key the car would do nothing. All the accessories would work but the car would not.
