Starting a new project car!

Hey All! I'll soon be starting on a new project. I am planning to purchase a clean FC S5 body, stripping everything and building it for track from the ground up. A question I have is, I am planning on looking for a place to source an S5 TII motor from and wanted to know what I should look out for when looking around? Are there any major things that I am going to want to look for on the engine when examining it before purchase? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Jason

Jspec engines are really hit or miss. The only reliable place to get them from is a member of the board. Japan2LA

If you get it from anywhere else you might as well rebuild it.

Has anybody purchased engines from got-jdm.com. I checked out on-line reviews from past customers, and they're either really good or really bad.

Most JDM engine importers are hit or miss. Many times they sell engines with cracked apex seals, so lots of people rebuild them from the get go.

If I remember Japan2LA provides a lengthy gaurantee with his engines and is your best source of j-spec engines.

Thats good to know. I haven't had any experience with importers before, do they ever tend to guarantee their motors? Or does it just depend on the importer?

Most importers tend not to offer a guarantee on rotary engines.

if your gonna be building the car from the ground up, you might as well rebuild the engine anyways, with some kind of porting perhaps.

Yeah, I really love the idea of bridge porting the engine, but how is the lifespan? Some places I read that it doesn't compromise the water seals and some say it does. Is this just a matter of how large the "eyebrow" is or how well the port job is done? Also, how well does the bridge port hold up to a turbo?
