Rule of thumb is that you will never get back all of the money you invest in a car, so if you plan to sell it, why go through this at all?

a near stock FD with a fresh rebuild will be worth more than a 1JZ swap, when you consider how much the swap will cost and the loss you will take doing it.

First, I agree that you'll take a huge loss if you intend to sell it soon. Pretty much an FD is a break-even proposition at best, since it's a bad market for FDs and sportscars now. You might find a buyer who's interested in the finished project but unless they're a fool they won't offer what it cost you.

In any case, the 1JZ and 2JZ swap has been done. It's not as easy as a V8. If you run some searches you'll find pics/discussion of them.
