Question stalling when hot

just joined; have now owned an 89 gtus n/a for about 4 months; change oil every 3k; plugs and wires every 10k or so;

my car has a few bugs to work out, and seeing as how this is my first exposure to the rotary, i have a few questions on things other than flooring the gas....

1)-there is excessive crank at first start up- i need to pump the gas a few times to get it to fire- is this normal?

2)- after i have been drivign it for about 10-20 minutes, time wise doesnt really matter, more like, after drivign it hard, the car wants to stall at stops, idle drops low (below 800), idle will also surge between 800 and 1300...wuuuhh wuuuuhhh wuuuhhh--whats this all about, where do i start

3)- possible oil leak from some sort of sending unit threaded into the driver's side of the oil pan- what is it and why sould it leak- i need to add oil almost every day, and ive heard a quart burned every 3k miles is normal, but i think its burning more than that

4)- do i really need the air pump and all those freaking converters?

Have the injectors professionally serviced.

Check for possible vacuum leaks, test the BAC valve, and adjust the TPS.

If you are adding oil every day, it must be one hell of a leak! That is the oil temp sender for cold start purposes. Remove the sensor, replace the crush washer, and reinstall.

4)- do i really need the air pump and all those freaking converters?
If you intend to pass emissions, yes.

I recently bought a 87 T2 and it wont't idle when its hot it hovers around 1000 to 1200 when its cold and won't idle at all when its hot, I'm still trying to figure out the problem. Sounds like your going through a lot of oil though
