ON squeal/whistle sound in engine bay

87 rx7 gx, the high pitch squeal/whistle sound started recently on my way home from work. It start to squeal/whistle when you lightly throttle to about 40% throttle, WOT it doesn't squeal/whistle. kinda some like a shot bearing sound. I check the pulley if they were bad and none were, recheck the tension on the belts. still making the sound. I thought it may be an intake leak so I smoke test it and no leak was found. I think its coming from under the upper intake manifold. hoping its not the engine. Any help would be nice and thanks.

I'm guessing a badly tensioned belt also...Usually the Alternator belt.
If it glazes then it doesn't grip.
Even some new ones will not grip correctly.

Its probably an intake leal they often sound like a brg.
If your not sure you could take all your belts off and start it for a short period

True, about testing that theory by belt removal,But if the car is working Fine, then it wouldn't be a Vac leak.
You'd know if the engine had a vacuum leak,it wouldn't run right.
Anyhow,just tossing it out there.

I have tried with the alternator loose and no difference, tomorrow im going to try with all the belts off and see. I did smoke the the intake system and i don't see any leak. I do know the egr leaks slightly before and it didn't affect anything. I just didn't want to remove the upper intake manifold. If it does come to it, can i block the egr without block off plates by adding a piece of paper in between the egr and engine.
also, it so loud its embarrassed to drive lol

You have many Canadian friends in the GTA..
If you get Real stuck, post in the Canadian section of the Forum and see if anyone is near you that may be able to look at your vehicle..
You get to meet another rx7 owner and ,,hehheh..your personal mechanic!
I'm 5 hours away,so I'm not just down the block from you!

ON

i`m almost positive its an intake leak but can't tell you where, it doesent take much to make it whistel. i have an fd that is doing the same, mind you it does sound a little lumpy at idle but if it has lower vac it would increase fuel because its a turbo. so i misted brake clean near gaskets i suspect and found the engine almost stalls because it pulls in more fuel than it needs if yours is already lean it would rev up a little. just some thoughts

I finally solve it, the hose behind the air pump to the acv got like a small hole in it, old rubber, replace with another one from my parts car and poof, no more annoying sound haha. something small can make a hell of an annoying sound.
