here's what could be wrong since i don't know if u just got the car or have owned it for a while. the cable inside the shield could be broke. if u recently bought it maybe the PO had the cluster out and didn't reconnect it. i personally have had the cable break. i guess it's possible, tho i can't see how, there's something wrong with the drive gear. u could get the rearend up on jack stands and with the engine idling in 1st take the cable loose and look to see if that part is turning.

Ok thanks, I'll check it out. I actually bought it last week so yeah its pretty new to me I'm hoping its just not connected to the cluster or something...the PO really didn't take care of the car like he should have so now i'm making up for it

pull the instrument cluster, it might simply be disconnected from the back. It's sort of a pain to get it connected right as the OEM cable is short.

If that's not the problem, leave your cluster out and drive the car up on ramps, crawl under the drivers door with a pair of adjustable pliers (channel locks) and unscrew the cable from the tranmission (do not remove the bolt, just unscrew the cable). Once you have it down, get someone to watch the cable inside the car and pull the tip slightly outward on the bottom end, if the end in the dash gets pulled in it's probably not broke, but you can turn it and see if it's turning the top one also.

I had one break, and then the replacement one from the parts store ($20.00) broke within 10 miles after installing it. I replaced it with another and so far so good. Be careful how you route the after market one, it's longer so you have more to route.

It is alot easier to jack up the car first and look to see if the speedo cable is hooked up on the driver's side of the Transmission,,rather than taking your whole Interior/cluster apart.
If the cable is hooked ON to the trans, then Try removing the Cable From the transmission and Spin the end with your Fingers. That should Make the Speedo needle Bounce.IF that doesn't happen then I would go ahead and Start inside the car.
When removing the cluster,Look in the Engine bay where the speedo cable comes up from the Underside of the car.you will notice it is being held on the car with a Plastic square looking clip.
If you undo that Clip it wil give you enough Slack to Push the cable Into the Firewall a bit so you can Move the Cluster enough to get at the back of it.
Once you have all the screws off from around the cluster then you can reach in and take the Electrical connectors Off the Speedo(grab the connector at the speedo and you will feel a Tab in the middle of the Round Connector,.either Push it or Move it outwards,mI can't remember, but you will see what I am talking about when you reach that point).
The Speedo cable comes off by squeezing the Plastic connection in the middle..
