smoking, running rough
hey guys, hope someone can help me...i picked up an 86 rx7 with 97k miles on it. the guy said its a rebuilt motor. the problem is that it sat for awhile. it starts right up and runs pretty good...but, it smokes quite a bit definitely when you rev it pretty high. i believe it has a blue tint to it. what could that be in a rotary? it seems down it power too. also, it hesitates when you first hit the gas, sometimes it will dies until it warms up at least. im new to rotaries but i want to give them a chance. any suggestions and help would be great (: thanks!!!

Was the previous owner able to provide any information regarding the rebuild?
The cooling system most likely needs to be pressure tested and the engine should be compression tested. These tests will give you a good idea of the condition of your engine.

If you still have the OMP, it might be that it's stuck dumping oil in, but if you're running a premix engine you could be running way too much oil in the fuel, or you killed an oil control ring.
Only way to fix an oil control ring is a rebuild, not too hard as you only need soft seals
And if the engine was rebuilt without an OMP, and you've not been premixing, you probably need new everything.
